We're now two weeks into getting the Brody's Trust up and running, and we decided to start by tackling the outdoor areas. Our outdoor Team have had a real beetle on their hands. The amount of bramble and ivy was overwhelming – it was everywhere, and clearing it was a real battle!
I honestly couldn't believe how much of a struggle it would be to clear the overgrowth. But we managed to get the last of the big areas of bramble cleared on Sunday, just before the weather took a turn for the worse. The pile of cleared bramble is enormous – it fills four parking spaces! We have another pile at the front, ready for collection this week.
Hidden treasure: Amidst the arduous task of clearing, we've uncovered some beautiful walls, hidden beneath the dense overgrowth. These discoveries have been accompanied by unforeseen challenges, primarily related to the trees. However, we remain optimistic that these issues will be resolved smoothly, although experience has taught us that nothing ever runs seamlessly.
Lets Get Creative Can You Help?
Now that we have something of a blank canvas, we can start coming up with creative ideas for how we're going to change the layout of the grounds. We want to make the area wheelchair friendly, and we'd love to put in vegetable patches so that the children and young adults we work with can plant seeds, grow their own food, and learn to cook it. It's all about learning life skills for the children we support.
What we need now is more help and more volunteers who can come along with their creative ideas and lend a hand. Whether you're a landscaper, a gardener, or simply someone who has a spare five minutes or a couple of days to help, we'd love to hear from you! By working together, we can keep this journey going and create a wonderful space for the children, complete with sensory gardens and more – the list is endless!
